These disks are in pristine condition.I don't think the guy I bought them from ever played them (I bought 100 records from his collection liquidation at $1 each. That means these disks cost me 20 cents each).

Many of the pieces are reminiscent of those written as part of the Brandenburg Concertos BWV  1046-1051, and the Goldberg Variations,The Concerto in F Major, BWV 1057, is a reworking of preexisting material, revisiting and arranging his fourth Brandenburg Concerto which was written almost twenty years previously while he was working at Cöthen.

I was still in High School when this came out, but I didn't encounter it for a few years. Released one year after Pink Floyd's UmmaGumma, it is a transition away from the psychedelic-rock genre which the two ensembles shared towards jazz-fusion. About the same time as Miles Davis' Bitches Brew, being in the forefront of the fusion movement.
"Facelift" was recorded live at Fairfield Hall, Croydon, January 4th, 1970 and at Mothers Club, Birmingham, January 11th, 1970.

The first of the Spoken Word albums -- very much not everyone's cup-o-tea. In fact most people I know, make that Everybody I Know, would not be willing to listen to this completely through.

It is a compilation of live performances, using a tape machine to create a delay effect/ It is poetry from the early 70s. It is a mind trip. They're like Cool Beat, man!

1 and 10 were recorded at the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
2 was recorded at the School of the Holy Child in Suffern, New York.
5 was recorded at the Planting Fields campus of Old Westbury College.
11 and 13 were recorded at The Thirsty Ear, a coffee house in Morristown, New Jersey.

Some of the greats in jazz, having a smoothness in common makes this a wonderful disk. Anything produced by Creed Taylor is guaranteed to excel. Side 2 is all Conceirto De Aranjuez, a lovely adaptation of the guitar piece by Joaquin Rodrigo, set to rival Miles' version on Sketches of Spain. This ranks as a personal favorite.

Recorded at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival. Phil Woods was christianed "The New Bird" in his early years, because of the way he played his alto sax. Though he did not try to emulate Bird in the way he played, he did marry Bird's widow, Chan Parker, and for a while, at least, he played Bird's sax.

This album is described as Free Jazz, but I don't hear it that way. Just solid post-Bop Jazz.

Canned Heat, from Los Angeles were near Hippie musical icons. With songs like Going Up The Country, from this album, and On The Road Again, from Boogie with Canned Heat, no one from the 60's will forget them. This is a good of AOR, or album oriented recording, whereby the entire record is intended to be played sequentially, culminating with the live performance, Tracks 18 & 19 recorded 100% live at the Kaleidoscope, Hollywood, California. Jim Horn on flute is interesting. He has played sax, or flute for many artist, including each of the solo Beatles, David Letterman's CBS Orchestra, and numerous others.

Really nice solo album using multi-tracking. He came as a real surprise to me in the jazz world. I was taken to see him at Rockefeller's in Houston. I was told 'this guy' was in town to play guitar, and we had to go see him. When he hit the first note, my jaw hit the table. It stayed there for some time. His sound of chorus effect plus reverb was novel but rich. His ability was superb.

Finally Caught Up (Even a little ahead)

Now that I have been diligent in posting albums I have surpassed my transcriptions with posts. I have not fully processed the data for all of these albums, and placed them in iTunes yet. But, at least now (with the new program) I won't be filled with dread, and a little guilt when I transcribe each new selection.

Real jazz from the late 20s. Bix Beiderbecke is one of the most interesting and tragic figures in jazz. He was born into a wealthy family in Ohio, and became enraptured with the jazz scene in Chicago. Contrary to his father's wishes, he Spent a lot of time at the speakeasies,  and in jazz clubs in the city. He died one night while driving home in a cold rainy night in his Stutz Bearcat. Some notables in this album, include Pee Wee Russell, and a young Bing Crosby.

New Methodology

Oh, Flash don't walk on the turntable

Watching the cat walk on the boxes of albums situated next to the turntable, on a low table. Hoping she doesn't take a shortcut to my lap.
